To know the worst is also to know the best

“To know the worst is also to know the best.”

Coined by me here today (I think): https://nullimmortalis.wordpress.com/2011/07/11/5410/

  1. But does it mean anything?

I think it does – but it’s not the most obvious: i.e the universe (creation) at any one moment in time is at its worst and its best. It’s probably more subtle than that. Or less subtle, even silly.

Without good, there cannot be bad. And vice versa. But it’s not even that.

  2. Degsy

    A more pessimistic interpretation.

“Where everything is bad, it must be good to know the worst.”
    F.H. Bradley (1846-1924)
    Ultimately derived from:
“It is best to know the worst.”
    Plautus (254 – 184BC)
